The Yellow Lorry Project

Talking about the Suffolk Highways gritter

Just what can the driver actually see?

As part of our road and vehicle awareness work, we are taking a Suffolk Highways gritter lorry into schools, so that the children can find out how the driver interacts with other road users.

The children will get a chance to sit in the cab and look in the mirrors to learn about 'blind spots' and just how bicycles and their riders can disappear if they get too close to the vehicle.

As long as your school playground has appropriate vehicular access, we can arrange to visit!

Here the rider is staying WELL back from the vehicle.
He knows that he must not be tempted to try to squeeze past it.

If a lorry stops behind you, move forward so that you can see the driver's face. Give them a smile! Make sure that they know you are there.

If you get too close to the front of a large vehicle, the driver may not be able to see you.

In this position the rider is likely to be invisible, and at risk if the lorry turns left.

AVOID this place.
